LumiBot Raises Tens of Millions of Yuan to Build Dexterous Robot Hands With Visuo-Tactile Sensors

Chinese startup LumiBot has closed an angel round of tens of millions of yuan. A former Wall Street investor founded the company, which builds "dexterous hands" for industrial robots with proprietary visuo-tactile sensors and what it calls the world's first actively cooled joint, which cuts temperature by 50+°C and extends service life to 5,000 hours. The 11-degree-of-freedom hand is already in small-batch production.

Chinese startup LumiBot (拾玥科技) has completed an angel funding round of tens of millions of yuan, 36Kr reported on July 23, 2026. A fund managed by Changyou Technology led the round, and two funds from state-owned investment platforms joined as co-investors. The money will go toward expanding the team, small-batch production, and collecting data for control models for robots' "dexterous hands."

What LumiBot Does

LumiBot was founded in early 2025 and develops solutions for precision robotic manipulation in industrial assembly and manufacturing. The company has already released four product lines and is betting on a "full stack," from hardware to the control model.

  • Angel round: tens of millions of yuan; lead investor: a fund managed by Changyou Technology
  • Founded in early 2025; focus: industrial assembly and precision operations
  • Four lines: Lumi-Dex dexterous hands, Lumi-Tac visuo-tactile sensors, the Lumi-Mind model, Lumi-Mod motor modules
  • The Lumi-Tac sensor offers 10 µm spatial resolution and 0.02 N force-control accuracy
  • Founder: Wu Yuwen, a former Wall Street investor

The team was recruited from Ant Group and Baidu's autonomous driving division. CTO Song Kaiyou led training of the Bailing multimodal model at Ant Group.

What Sets the Technology Apart

LumiBot's main differentiator is its proprietary visuo-tactile sensor, Lumi-Tac. A miniature camera captures the deformation of a gel surface and decomposes it into force, texture, and slip. This approach delivers 10 µm spatial resolution and 0.02 N force-control accuracy, noticeably higher than traditional array-based tactile sensors.

"The academic community considers visuo-tactile sensing the future for dexterous hands…

We are the only team among dexterous-hand makers with our own visuo-tactile solution," said Wu Yuwen, LumiBot's founder, in a comment to 36Kr.

By its own account, LumiBot has also introduced the world's first micro joint module with active cooling. It lowers temperature by more than 50 °C and raises continuous no-load operating life to 5,000+ hours, which lets a dexterous hand run an industrial 24/7 shift pattern. Engineers reworked the motor layout to free up space for an air channel inside the cramped housing.

Why the Focus on Industry

LumiBot runs two lines split by degrees of freedom. The 11-DoF hand (model Lumi-Dex-11S) targets the mass market: small-batch production is already under way, sales began in June 2026, and the company forecasts annual revenue of 20–30 million yuan from shipping 100–200 units.

The flagship with 23 active degrees of freedom is aimed at high-end scenarios; the actively cooled version will arrive in October 2026. According to 36Kr, the company has already started a contract worth millions of yuan with a major industrial customer, in which the dexterous hands are being tested together with industrial manipulators on painting operations. Partnerships with China Unicom and Sieyuan Electric are also in the works.

The founder notes that factories value "durability" more than "dexterity": the customer's key question is how many hours a hand will run without breaking down. Industrial manipulators, not humanoid robots, generate the most paying demand today.

What This Means

Dexterous hands are the "last centimeter" for robots performing delicate operations, and Chinese startups are increasingly closing that gap with their own "hardware + data + model" stack. LumiBot is betting on four product lines and a closed loop of "collection → training → deployment → data return," which shows where the practical center of gravity in embodied AI is shifting: toward industrial applications.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who invested in LumiBot?

A fund managed by Changyou Technology led the angel round of tens of millions of yuan; two funds from state-owned investment platforms joined as co-investors.

When will the flagship actively cooled hand be released?

The 23-active-DoF dexterous hand with active cooling is expected in October 2026; a variant built on hollow-rotor motors is due in parallel.

How is a visuo-tactile sensor better than a conventional one?

According to LumiBot, Lumi-Tac delivers 10 µm resolution and 0.02 N force-control accuracy and improves manipulation success rates more noticeably than array-based tactile sensors.
