Facebook Marketplace now lets Meta AI handle those annoying "Is this still available?" messages

Facebook Marketplace is rolling out AI auto-replies for sellers. Meta AI will respond on its own to questions about whether an item is still available, with replies like "Yes, it's still available. Any questions?" Sellers turn the option on when they create a listing, and they can edit the reply. AI now also helps sellers put together the listings themselves faster, based on their photos. *Meta is designated an extremist organization and banned in Russia.

Meta has added several AI-powered tools to Facebook Marketplace that are meant to speed up selling on the platform. The headline feature is automatic replies to the most common and most irritating question buyers ask: "Is this still available?" Sellers can now turn on auto-reply when they create a listing.

Meta AI will then respond on its own to incoming messages about whether an item is still available. In an example the company showed, the AI assistant replies: "Yes, it's still available. Any questions?"

Short, polite, and to the point. Sellers can also edit the draft reply before it goes out or customize the template. That isn't the only upgrade.

Meta AI can now analyze uploaded product photos and use them to fill in listing fields automatically: title, description, and category. Previously, sellers had to enter all of that by hand; now the AI takes over the routine part of the job. Facebook Marketplace remains one of the world's largest peer-to-peer marketplaces.

Millions of people post listings and message potential buyers every day. "Ghost" listings, where sellers stop responding, have frustrated users for a long time, and the new tool should solve that problem at least partially. Bringing AI into Marketplace fits Meta's broader strategy: the company is aggressively building its assistant into every product in its ecosystem, from Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger to, now, its marketplace.

For users, that means less manual work when selling; for Meta, it means more engagement and more data on transactions happening inside the platform. Auto-replies to availability questions are a small but telling detail: even the tiniest points of friction in the user experience are becoming targets for automation. If the feature catches on, sellers will be able to post listings and barely open the app, with the AI handling the initial conversation for them.
