Qingce GT7 with Huawei Ascend ADS 5: autopilot without networks on board

On July 9, 2026, Qingce (启境) began full-volume deliveries of the GT7 — the first production vehicle equipped with Huawei's Ascend ADS 5 AI chip directly on board. This means: Huawei managed to move autonomous driving from the cloud to the edge of the network.

What Comes in the Box

GT7 comes with two capabilities:

• RCA (Roaming Cruise Assist) — route cruise control without navigation: the robot sees the road, changes lanes on its own, follows the car ahead, and works everywhere: high speed, city, unpaved roads
• Parking — the system covers 120+ million parking spaces across China, works on board, directs the car to a spot without navigation

All of this is native support, works immediately after purchase. No map downloads, local calibration, or cloud requests.

Why This Matters

Before this, autonomous driving required either constant cloud (latency, 5G dependence) or years of work with maps (each city needed its own). Ascend ADS 5 works locally on board and adapts on the fly.

Ascend 950 (Huawei's new chip) is designed for inference — running finished models. The driving model was trained offline, on board it simply works, sees camera frames, predicts trajectory and trajectory of other objects.

What This Means

Huawei demonstrated that autonomous driving can work at the edge without the cloud. This shifts the competition: before, the game was in data centers and the cloud, now it's at the boundary between the car and the network. Qingce GT7 is not just a car, it's proof that edge AI has grown from the lab into production.
