Yandex Music Is Flooded With AI Tracks, Investigation Finds

An investigation has revealed the scale of the AI-track problem on Yandex Music: 140,000 AI artists, 100,000+ AI tracks a month (40% of new uploads), and every 10th track in the chart is generated. Yandex has not responded so far. Examples have already drawn attention: an AI cover of Yesenin's poem "Syp, garmonika" reached 16th place in the chart. The platform has no filters, labels or even upload limits for AI content.

Yandex Music is facing an uncontrolled flood of AI tracks. The investigation's results show that the platform has effectively lost the ability to tell human music from AI-generated music, which seriously undermines its value to users.

The scale of the problem

Yandex Music's catalog now contains at least 140,000 AI artists. Every month they upload more than 100,000 AI tracks, roughly 40% of all new uploads on the platform. In the top charts the situation is even sharper: every 10th track in the overall ranking is auto-generated.

Some examples have already drawn attention: an AI cover of Yesenin's poem "Syp, garmonika" reached 16th place in the chart. Another is the track "Yarmarka sudeb" by an artist called Alena, which was even performed live on the Russia 1 TV channel, and none of the viewers noticed it was AI. There are more and more such examples.

Where the problem came from

Yandex Music used to be genuinely praised. Its recommendation algorithms were smart enough to help listeners discover little-known bands and new artists. People found authentic content through it and built their musical taste on that basis.

But with the arrival of Suno, Lyria and Udio, everything changed. Music generators became so accessible and easy to use that producing a professional-sounding track now requires neither talent, nor time, nor investment. Anyone can upload hundreds or thousands of tracks under a fictional artist in just hours.

The platform did not build any defenses. The recommendation algorithms kept doing their job: recommending what is popular. Now they push low-quality AI slop en masse, crowding live performers out of feeds.

Why this is critical

  • The feed algorithms are completely broken: they pick popular AI tracks over quality music from real artists
  • Human musicians are losing listeners in an exhausting fight against freely generated content
  • The charts no longer reflect real preferences and are turning into an AI junkyard
  • The platform is losing its core value: it is no longer a helper for discovering music but a source of spam

What Yandex is doing

There is no official comment from the company. The platform has no filters, labeling or even limits on uploading AI content. It looks as though Yandex either does not see the problem or is not interested in dealing with it.

"100,000+ AI tracks every month is 40% of all uploads.

And Yandex is doing nothing," the investigation concludes.

What this means

Yandex Music's problem is a local version of a global problem on every platform where AI content is not labeled, not restricted and not separated. Without explicit filters, algorithms will keep learning from AI slop and getting worse. Users who came for live music will leave for places where they see honest content and honest recommendations.
