Apple is preparing a major Siri update for iOS 27 with a focus on privacy. According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, the redesigned Siri will receive a feature for automatic deletion of chat history — this is Apple's strategic attempt to stand out amid its competitors in the heated AI race.

How the New Siri Will Work

The redesigned version of Siri will be much more similar to modern chatbots like ChatGPT or Claude. The main innovation is the auto-delete option for conversation history: users themselves will be able to choose whether to delete chats every 30 days, once a year, or never at all. No automatic erasure without the user's knowledge — everything is under the user's control.

This is fundamentally different from the approach of other major industry players. OpenAI, Google, and others mainly offer only temporary incognito modes, if they have them at all. Apple, however, has decided to give users full control: not just a "private mode," but concrete tools for managing the lifecycle of personal data.

Importantly, this is not a cosmetic update. The new Siri will work on top of Apple Intelligence — Apple's own on-device processing system, which in theory should mean less data sent to the company's servers.

Privacy as a Competitive Advantage

Apple has positioned itself as a defender of user privacy for many years. In the context of the current AI race, this could become an unexpectedly powerful argument. While the whole world worries that their conversations with a bot will be saved somewhere, analyzed, and end up in training datasets, Apple offers a concrete solution with options. The company is clearly betting that some users are willing to sacrifice a bit of convenience for real control over their data. The feature looks not like a marketing gimmick, but like a thoughtful choice: Siri is still behind ChatGPT in capabilities, but privacy could be the area where Apple competes more fairly than others.

  • Full control over deleting history
  • Flexible options: 30 days, 1 year, forever
  • On-device processing through Apple Intelligence
  • No hidden ways to store data
  • Transparency regarding user data

What This Means for the Market

Privacy is gradually turning from a niche feature into a key factor influencing the choice of AI product. If Apple really plays this card well, it could attract a wave of users who are too cautious with their data or simply tired of the feeling that they are being tracked everywhere. And there are more such people nowadays. For the industry, this could be a signal: privacy is no longer a competitive annoyance, but a main sales factor for AI. If Google, Meta, and OpenAI don't have a quick answer, they could lose part of the cautious users who will choose iPhone with Siri.
