Yandex integrates Alice Pro into Mail: AI finds facts in emails and helps with replies

Yandex added a chat with Alice Pro to Yandex Mail — an AI assistant based on Alice AI LLM that can parse letters and attachments, extract facts from them, and immediately formulate a response to the user. The new tool is designed for both personal and work scenarios: from searching for invoices and tickets to summarizing project correspondence.

What the assistant can do

The assistant works directly with the content of your mailbox. It analyzes not only the text of the letters themselves, but also attachments: PDFs, documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. If your mail contains receipts from gas stations, Alice Pro can calculate your fuel expenses for the desired month. If a contractor was discussed in the correspondence, it will find their details, tax ID, or account number. Based on transcripts of meetings from Telemost, the assistant can remind you what participants agreed on and what decisions were made.

In addition to analysis, the AI can work as a text editor. Yandex also emphasizes that the assistant can connect to open sources on the internet for everyday tasks — for example, suggest the weather before a trip or help you find restaurants in the desired city.

How the search works

The key feature of the service is searching by meaning, not by literal word match. If you ask: "How much did I pay for the apartment in February?", the assistant won't wait for the letter to contain exactly that wording. It will understand that the answer is likely hidden in a payment receipt or utility bill for the desired month and will extract the number from there. This approach is especially useful when the user doesn't remember which letter or attachment contained the needed information.

Response generation is handled by Alice AI LLM, and a RAG system is used to compile results: it combines the model's knowledge with facts extracted from the user's specific letters and files. This reduces the amount of manual archive searching and transforms email from a set of disconnected threads into a working knowledge base. In essence, Yandex is turning the mailbox into an interface where you can ask questions in natural language and quickly get concise, practical answers.

Access and Data Protection

At the time of the announcement, the chat with Alice Pro became available to paid Yandex 360 users for personal, family, and work use; the company promised to add an enterprise launch in the next phase. This is an important detail: we're talking about a built-in feature within the Yandex ecosystem, not an external plugin. Previously, the service already used generative models to highlight important emails and prepare brief summaries, but now AI is transitioning from passive suggestions to full dialogue with the mail archive.

Yandex separately emphasizes the privacy issue. Alice Pro operates within a protected Yandex 360 environment, accesses correspondence only on explicit user request, does not store processing results, and does not transmit data externally. Materials from the mailbox are also not used for model training.

For a service that reads letters, this is not an additional detail but a basic requirement for trust: without such a caveat, widespread use in work scenarios would be difficult.

Mail is gradually ceasing to be just a message storage system and is transforming into an interface for personal and work archives.
