Bluesky launches Attie: AI helps build custom feeds without code
Bluesky has launched Attie, an AI app for building custom feeds on the open AT Protocol. Until now, this required code; now you just describe what you want to see. It is a strategic move: Bluesky is making decentralized personalization available to everyone, not only developers. It is also another sign that AI is being built directly into social media algorithms.

Bluesky has launched Attie, a new app that uses artificial intelligence to create personal content feeds on the open AT Protocol. The tool turns a complicated technical task into a simple conversation: describe what you want to see, and the AI assembles the feed for you.
Since its mass launch in 2023, Bluesky has positioned itself as a decentralized alternative to Twitter/X. The platform is built on AT Protocol, an open standard for social networks that lets any developer build apps compatible with the Bluesky ecosystem. Custom feeds that users can tune to their interests have been one of the platform's key features from the start. That sets Bluesky apart from most competitors, where the algorithm is a black box you cannot control.
Attie makes this process accessible to a broad audience with no technical background. Previously, creating a personalized feed required knowing how to code or digging into developer interfaces. Now the user simply describes what they want, such as "only AI news from verified accounts," "posts about movies without spoilers" or "everything about biotech startups," and Attie uses AI to assemble the matching stream of content. This substantially lowers the barrier to entry and opens up customization to an audience that never writes code.
Strategically, this is an important step for Bluesky. Algorithmic feeds have long been central to the big platforms: TikTok, Instagram and YouTube build their entire user experience around personalization. Bluesky offers a different philosophy: users choose which algorithm runs their feed and can switch at any time. Attie adds an AI layer on top of this system, removing the last technical barrier.
Context matters here: Bluesky is growing fast. After a wave of user migration from Twitter/X in 2024-2025, the platform has gained tens of millions of registered accounts. Competition among decentralized networks, including Bluesky, Mastodon and Nostr, has intensified. In that contest, the ability to easily build personalized feeds is becoming a significant competitive advantage, especially for audiences tired of the opaque algorithms of X or Meta*.
AT Protocol, as an open technology, also benefits from tools like this. An open protocol attracts developers, but they need concrete showcases: why build on AT Protocol when proprietary APIs exist? Attie serves as an answer: this is what becomes possible when the social graph is open and anyone can plug into it. Tools like this stimulate the growth of the ecosystem and draw in new participants.
The limitations are real too. Attie's usefulness depends directly on how much interesting content exists in the Bluesky ecosystem, and that remains an open question. The platform is considerably smaller than X in content volume, especially outside the English-language segment.
Still, the direction is clear: Bluesky is betting on combining an open protocol with accessible AI tools, arguing that decentralization and good user experience are not at odds.
For the market as a whole, this is another signal of transformation. AI is ceasing to be a standalone product and is being built into the basic infrastructure of social platforms. Not "an AI chat next to the feed," but "AI that builds the feed itself for a specific user." Companies and platforms that master this approach before others will gain a serious advantage in the fight for audience attention in the coming years.
