Within a few days of launching its new Muse Spark model, the Meta AI app climbed from 57th to 5th place in the US App Store. It is one of the sharpest chart jumps among AI apps in recent months.

Before Muse Spark arrived, the app held a modest position in the middle of the sixth ten. That is a typical baseline for utilities that people download on a specific recommendation but almost never find organically through search. The new model changed the picture radically: within days, Meta AI overtook most of the entertainment apps, games and streaming services that traditionally dominate the top of the chart.

Muse Spark is Meta AI's new model, focused on multimodal and creative tasks. The company positions it as a tool for a broad audience, including people who have never worked with generative AI. Its distinguishing features are image generation, help with writing, visual storytelling and extended conversations. Judging by the market's reaction, the marketing strategy worked: people saw the news, opened the App Store and downloaded the app.

The climb to fifth place is notable for several reasons. First, Meta AI competes directly with OpenAI's ChatGPT, the leader of the productivity category with an audience of many millions. Second, only a year ago the Meta AI app was seen mostly as an auxiliary tool inside the Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp ecosystem rather than a standalone product for daily use. Now it clearly aims for a place in the everyday set of apps of an ordinary user.

The broader context matters too. In 2025–2026, the race among AI apps entered a phase of fighting for the attention of the end consumer. Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot: all the major players have already released mobile apps and are actively battling for top-chart spots. In this environment, a jump of 52 positions in a few days is not just a marketing win; it is a measurable signal that Meta has made something users want to try right now.

For Meta itself the stakes are especially high. The company is investing tens of billions of dollars in AI infrastructure and has publicly stated its intention to build an intelligent assistant into all its products. A standalone app's success in the App Store is both a PR win and confirmation that the audience is ready to see Meta not only as a social platform but as a full-fledged AI company.

The momentum deserves separate attention: the app kept rising after the initial buzz around the announcement had faded. That points to organic word of mouth rather than a one-off spike from media coverage. This kind of growth usually signals that a product is really finding its users.

The App Store position is only the visible tip. Behind it lie real installs, active sessions and, most important for a company whose business model is built on data, information about user behavior and preferences. Every new Meta AI user is a potentially valuable source of feedback for fine-tuning the next versions of the model. If Meta manages to retain this audience, the competitive landscape of AI apps could change significantly. For now, the App Store numbers speak for themselves: the market has noticed Muse Spark.
