Adobe has introduced a new Firefly-based AI assistant that can carry out tasks in Creative Cloud apps on its own, without the user manually directing every step. The assistant works as an agent: it takes a task from the user and decides for itself which tools and apps to use. Supported programs include Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Lightroom, Illustrator, Express, and Firefly itself.
That means a single instruction can kick off a chain of actions across several apps at once. For example, a user can ask it to prepare an image for publication, and the assistant will open Photoshop to retouch it, move the file to Express to adapt it to the required format, and save the result. The whole process, which used to mean switching between windows and doing things by hand, is now automated.
Adobe is moving toward agentic AI, where software doesn't just answer questions but takes over multistep workflows. That is a fundamentally different level of integration compared with Firefly's earlier content-generation features. For creative professionals, this could significantly speed up routine work: batch image processing, preparing assets in multiple formats, and editing tweaks.
The open question is how reliably the assistant handles unusual requests and how it deals with errors at intermediate steps. Adobe has not yet disclosed details on availability or pricing. It appears the feature will be folded into the existing Creative Cloud subscription, though the details will be clarified later.
The launch of an agentic assistant signals that Adobe is serious about becoming an AI platform for professionals, not just a set of tools with AI features bolted on.
