2025 was a landmark year for the artificial intelligence industry. Hundreds of new large language models (LLMs) and image and video generation models reached the market. Hundreds of millions of dollars poured into the sector, companies were acquired, and leading researchers were offered contracts worth 100 million dollars. Yet the most important event stayed in the shadow of these headlines.

It is the mass shift from the idea of "LLM as assistant" to "AI as workforce." For a long time, large language models were used mostly in a question-and-answer format, helping people with individual tasks. Now they are systematically replacing knowledge work in business processes, handling routine operations and even making decisions.

Several factors made this shift possible. First, LLM performance and efficiency rose significantly. They can now process large volumes of data, understand complex requests and generate quality content. Second, new tools and platforms have appeared that allow AI to be integrated into existing business processes. Third, companies have become more deliberate about adopting AI, understanding which tasks can be automated and which require human involvement.

The consequences of this shift are enormous. On one hand, AI lets companies raise efficiency and cut costs substantially. Automating routine tasks frees employees from monotonous work and lets them focus on more creative and strategic tasks. On the other hand, questions arise about employment and retraining. Many professions built around information processing and data analysis may be automated, which would lead to job cuts.

In the coming years, we will see this trend develop further. AI will penetrate every area of business more deeply, automating more and more tasks. Companies need to start preparing for these changes now, by designing employee retraining strategies and adapting their business models to the new reality. Workers, in turn, need to learn new skills and competencies to stay in demand in the labor market.

In short, 2025 was a turning point in the history of AI. The shift from "AI as assistant" to "AI as workforce" opens new opportunities for business, but it also creates new challenges for society. It is important that this process unfolds deliberately and responsibly, taking the interests of all stakeholders into account. Otherwise, technological progress may turn against humanity.
