The idea of remaking the classic film The Magnificent Ambersons with artificial intelligence continues to spark heated discussion. The initial skepticism has eased somewhat, but questions about whether the approach is worthwhile, and whether it is ethical, remain open. Why "revive" a classic with technology at all, and does that devalue the original work of art?

Orson Welles's The Magnificent Ambersons is a landmark film that, sadly, was heavily cut by the studio RKO Pictures. For many years, enthusiasts have dreamed of restoring the original version. Now there is an idea to use AI to recreate the lost scenes. On one hand, that may look like an interesting experiment. On the other, a question arises: how much would the result really be Welles's film?

The project works by having AI analyze the existing footage, the script and other materials in order to generate the missing fragments. In theory, this could let us see The Magnificent Ambersons as the director intended. However, even the most advanced AI cannot fully recreate an artist's creative vision. There will always be an element of interpretation, and therefore deviation from the original.

The main problem is that AI is a tool, not a creator. It can imitate a style, but it is not capable of genuine creativity or innovation. As a result, we may end up with a technically flawless but soulless product, stripped of the magic that made The Magnificent Ambersons a masterpiece.

Moreover, using AI for remakes raises important questions about copyright and intellectual property. Who owns the rights to a film made with AI? The original creators, the AI developers, or someone else? These questions demand serious discussion and legal regulation.

In conclusion, although the idea of using AI to restore The Magnificent Ambersons has a certain appeal, it still looks doubtful. The risk of ending up with a poor-quality, soulless product is too high. It may be better to focus on preserving and promoting original works of art than to try to "improve" them with technology. Genuine art is priceless, and it should not be replaced with artificial intelligence.
