Google Targets the iPhone While Anthropic Spooks Finance: The Big AI Week in Review

The week's headline: Google officially confirmed that Gemini will underpin Apple's next generation of AI models. While the giants carve up the smartphone market, Anthropic released Claude Opus 4.6, a model so strong at financial analysis that FactSet shares fell 10%. Amazon, meanwhile, announced a record $200 billion in spending on infrastructure and chips in 2026. Even Jia Yueting of Faraday Future has switched from cars to humanoid robots (Embodied AI). The industry is moving from talk to enormous checks and real influence on the stock market.

While everyone was discussing the holidays, Silicon Valley decided that rest is for the weak. Sundar Pichai officially confirmed what had been whispered about for months: Google will become Apple's main cloud provider and will help build the next generation of iPhone models based on Gemini technology. This is not just another partnership. It is an admission that even Apple cannot keep up with the pace of the race on its own. If we used to wonder whose intelligence would live in your pocket, the answer now seems obvious. Google is buying itself the most expensive ticket to the future, using Apple devices as the main distribution channel for its technology.

But while the giants strike deals, Anthropic is landing a punch to the gut of traditional fintech. The release of Claude Opus 4.6 caused a local earthquake on the stock market.

The new model has learned to analyze financial reports, regulatory filings and market data so effectively that shares of the analytics company FactSet plunged 10% right after the announcement. Opus can now plan complex tasks ahead, fix its own mistakes as it works and handle huge codebases. This is no longer just an assistant for drafting emails but a full-fledged digital employee that does in seconds work that used to take people days.

It looks like the era of "just chatbots" is over and the era of autonomous agents has begun.

The industry's appetite grows in proportion to its capabilities. Andy Jassy of Amazon announced that the company will invest a staggering $200 billion in data centers, custom chips and robotics in 2026 alone. To put the scale in perspective: that is more than the GDP of many developed countries. Elon Musk is not sitting this one out either: his SpaceX has filed an application to launch a million satellites to create an orbital data cloud. Musk plans to build a network of data centers in space itself to supply computing power for advanced AI models. It seems there is no longer enough room on Earth for servers, and the battle for intelligence is literally moving into orbit.

Even those who spent years trying to build electric cars are now looking toward embodied intelligence (Embodied AI). Jia Yueting, founder of the long-suffering Faraday Future, unveiled his first humanoid robot. After eight years of living in debt and trying to launch mass production of cars, he decided that robots are a more promising way to save the company. The irony is that while his cars barely reach customers, robots may become his last real chance to get back into the big game. Meanwhile, in China, Jack Ma is personally inspecting the Qwen team at Alibaba, stressing that the company is throwing all its resources at AI ahead of the holidays.

What does all this mean for us? We are moving from the "hype" stage to a stage of total restructuring of the economy. When Amazon spends hundreds of billions on hardware, and an Anthropic model changes the market capitalization of public companies just by being released, it is clear that the rules of the game have changed. The whole world is turning into one big neural network, where Google's clouds power Apple's devices and Musk's satellites provide their connectivity. The time is coming when the question is not whether AI will replace you, but whose infrastructure will run your workday.

The bottom line: the line between software and the physical world has finally blurred. If you thought AI was just a toy for generating text, look at FactSet's stock chart and Amazon's investment budget. Will humanity be able to feed such an appetite for computing power?
