Claude Agent SDK: Even Pension Fund Software Vendors Are Now Building AI Agents

BGL, which supplies software to 12,700 pension funds, has moved its analytics onto Claude Agent SDK and Amazon Bedrock. Instead of digging through Excel, users now simply talk to an AI agent that understands financial context and regulation. It is an important case: AI stops being just a chatbot and becomes an autonomous worker with access to real APIs and databases. For the B2B sector, the signal is clear: either you deploy agents, or your customers move to vendors who did.

Picture a typical pension fund. Mountains of documentation, endless reports and regulatory requirements that make even seasoned lawyers wince. Australian company BGL has lived in this world for decades, serving thousands of businesses in 15 countries. Recently, though, it decided to stop torturing people with endless spreadsheets and complicated interfaces. Together with Amazon and Anthropic, it has rolled out what we would call a genuine AI agent, and it changes the rules of the game in enterprise software.

Business intelligence (BI) used to belong to people who could write SQL queries, or at least were masters of Excel pivot tables. BGL took a different route and adopted Claude Agent SDK. The difference matters: this is not just a chat interface where you can ask "how are you?". It is a full toolkit that lets the Claude model dig into the guts of a database, understand the structure of transactions and produce meaningful conclusions. Where a complex compliance report once took hours, the agent now does it in seconds.

Why does this matter right now? We are in the middle of a broad shift from "AI that just talks" to "AI that does". Amazon Bedrock AgentCore acts as the conductor here, connecting the Claude model to real APIs and the company's internal data. As a result, a BGL customer can simply ask, "Why did our returns drop this quarter compared with last year?", and the agent will not just find the numbers but also match them against changes in legislation or market trends. This is the democratization of data that marketers have been shouting about for the last ten years, and it has only now become possible.

Let's be honest: Anthropic's Claude is currently the gold standard for tasks like this. Its capacity for complex reasoning helps minimize hallucinations, which in the financial sector can cost millions. BGL did not just bolt on a trendy feature; it rethought the user experience. Software for managing complex self-managed super funds (SMSF) is turning from a passive data store into an active advisor that is always at hand.

For the industry, this is a clear signal. The era of "smart search" inside enterprise software is ending. The era of agents with a certain degree of autonomy is beginning. If your B2B product still makes users filter lists and build charts by hand, you have serious problems. BGL has shown that even in a niche as conservative and "boring" as pension administration, there is room for radical techno-optimism. We are watching cloud giants like AWS put weapons in developers' hands that can kill classic consulting.

How quickly this transition happened is also interesting. BGL did not have to hire an army of data scientists to train its models from scratch. Off-the-shelf SDKs and Amazon Bedrock's capacity let it deploy a production-ready solution in very short order. That raises a question for the whole market: if tasks this complex can be solved with standard tools, what is to stop your competitors from doing the same tomorrow? Speed of adoption is becoming the main competitive advantage.

The bottom line: Claude Agent SDK is becoming a powerful lever for transforming the B2B sector. We are waiting for the day when accounting and auditing finally turn into a conversation with an AI, and we at last forget what Excel formulas look like. Are you ready to trust your pension savings to an algorithm that reasons better than your financial advisor?
