Dutch insurer Univé rolls out ChatGPT Enterprise to its entire workforce
Dutch insurance cooperative Univé has deployed ChatGPT Enterprise to prepare its entire workforce for working with AI. The company built the rollout on three elements: leadership support, responsible data governance and employee-led initiative. Dutch insurance cooperative Univé has rolled out ChatGPT Enterprise to systematically prepare its entire workforce for working with artificial intelligence. OpenAI describes Univé's experience as a showcase for how management initiative, responsible data governance and an active role for employees can together drive a large-scale transformation of work processes, not in a single department but across the whole organization.
Three pillars of AI readiness
Univé built its ChatGPT Enterprise rollout on three interlocking elements which, according to OpenAI's materials, determined the success of the transformation.
Leadership. From the start, the company's management did not merely sign off on the project. Executives used ChatGPT Enterprise in their daily work and demonstrated it openly to the rest of the organization. For large organizations, visible backing from top management is one of the most important factors in whether a new tool is actually adopted: when a director uses an AI assistant in a meeting, it sends a signal to the whole company.
Responsible governance. Alongside the launch, Univé developed internal AI usage policies covering the handling of customer data, compliance with insurance regulation and quality control of AI-generated material. Insurance is one of the most heavily regulated industries in Europe, and clear rules became a mandatory precondition for Univé to scale the tool.
Bottom-up initiative. Rather than dictating use cases from above, the company let employees find the tasks where ChatGPT helps most. According to OpenAI's description, this element is what produced organic adoption of the tool: a real change in processes, not formal compliance with corporate KPIs for "AI adoption."
How ChatGPT Enterprise differs from a standard subscription
ChatGPT Enterprise is the corporate version of OpenAI's flagship product. Its key differences from standard plans:
- OpenAI does not train its language models on corporate conversations, which is critical for industries that handle customers' personal data
- An admin console for managing roles and access rights and for auditing queries
- Unlimited access to OpenAI's flagship models with no rate limits
- Enterprise-grade confidentiality agreements
For an insurer whose employees process sensitive customer data every day, these guarantees were a mandatory entry requirement: without them, a large-scale AI project in a regulated industry would not have been possible.
"Univé created an AI-ready workforce by combining leadership, responsible governance and employee-led innovation to transform work at scale," the case description on
OpenAI's official website says.
What this means
Univé's experience shows that successful enterprise AI adoption is first and foremost an organizational challenge, not a technological one. Insurers that first build the culture, transparent rules and leadership example, and only then scale the tool, get results noticeably faster than those that start with the technology and count on organic adoption. This sequence, "people first, tool second," is the foundation of the Univé case that OpenAI published as a model of corporate AI transformation.
