Anthropic has added a screen-recording learning mode to its desktop app Claude Cowork: as of July 2026, users can record themselves performing a task, add a voice commentary — and Claude will assemble a reusable skill from it on its own.

How Claude Cowork picks up a skill

Claude Cowork now learns by watching a demonstration rather than reading instructions. The user turns on screen recording right inside the app, performs the needed task by hand, and simultaneously narrates by voice what they're doing and why. Claude parses this combination — the sequence of on-screen actions plus the spoken explanations — and packages it as a skill that can then be run again without manually repeating the steps.

The point is that demonstrating a single task turns into a procedure that can be reused many times: show it once — the agent reproduces it.

Why this is more convenient than text instructions

Demonstration removes the main barrier to training an agent — the need to precisely describe every step in words. Previously, to give Claude a new skill, the procedure had to be written out as text: what steps, in what order, what to look at. Now the same result is achieved by showing — recording the actual execution with voice explanations.

Anthropic is developing the skills format as a way to store and reuse recurring procedures for an agent. The screen recording feature, reported by The Decoder, extends this format to tasks that are easier to show than to describe: working with interfaces, multi-step operations within applications, routines where the sequence of clicks matters.

What this means

Training an AI agent is shifting from writing instructions to demonstration: showing a task will be enough for the agent to reproduce it. For desktop agents this lowers the barrier to entry — any user can build a skill, not just someone who knows how to phrase procedures in text. Anthropic is building this way of learning directly into Claude Cowork, bringing the agent closer to a "do as I showed you" scenario.
