MGX from Abu Dhabi raised 49 billion dollars for one of the largest AI funds in history

The investment company MGX from Abu Dhabi raised 49 billion dollars for one of the largest funds in history dedicated to deals in artificial intelligence — the sum positions the firm, founded just two years ago, among the most influential AI industry investors in the world.

How much MGX raised and what it means

The 49 billion dollar fund is called one of the largest in history by Bloomberg, ever created specifically for AI industry deals. For comparison — most venture and sovereign AI funds announced over the past two years have been measured in tens of billions of dollars and rarely approached this mark within a single tranche.

  • The volume of the attracted fund is 49 billion dollars
  • MGX has existed for just about two years
  • The fund, according to Bloomberg, is one of the largest in history dedicated to AI industry deals
  • The company's headquarters are in Abu Dhabi, UAE

Who stands behind MGX

MGX is an investment platform created in Abu Dhabi with the participation of the state holding Mubadala Investment Company; the company's chairman is Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE's national security advisor and one of the most influential people in the emirate in the field of technology investments. Beyond MGX, Tahnoun oversees other structures related to AI and technology — together they form one of the world's largest investment portfolios affiliated with the UAE state. Over two years of existence, MGX has managed to become a co-investor in a number of major global AI deals — from infrastructure partnerships around data centers to rounds of leading laboratories developing large language models.

Previously MGX had already appeared in several major AI deals: in 2024, the fund acted as a co-investor in one of OpenAI's rounds and joined the partners of the AI Infrastructure Partnership alliance alongside Microsoft, BlackRock, and Nvidia, and in early 2025 appeared among the participants in the announced Stargate project for building data centers in the USA. The new tranche of 49 billion dollars allows the company to continue this co-investment strategy in the most capital-intensive AI projects in the world.

Why money is going precisely into AI infrastructure

The hype around capital investment in AI over the past two years is connected to a shortage of computing power: demand from laboratories and corporations for training and inference of large models is growing faster than new data centers are being built and chips are being produced. The sovereign funds of the Persian Gulf, possessing large capital reserves from oil revenues, have become some of the most active participants in this race — they finance not only the models themselves, but the physical infrastructure: power supply, cooling, construction of data center campuses.

By the volume of capital raised, the MGX fund is comparable to the largest technology funds of the past decade like SoftBank's Vision Fund and exceeds most sovereign venture initiatives that Persian Gulf countries have launched in previous years. The UAE as a whole consistently positions itself as one of the global hubs of the AI industry: the country is developing its own family of open models Falcon from the Technological Institute of Advanced Research (TII), and the Emirati company G42 has built partnerships with Microsoft and other Western tech giants. The new fund strengthens this strategy, adding Abu Dhabi another lever of influence on the global capital market for AI.

What this means

The 49 billion dollar MGX fund cements Abu Dhabi's status as one of the key centers of capital for the global AI industry — on par with Silicon Valley and the largest American investment funds.
