What ElevenLabs is doing

Why Caine?
The choice of Caine's voice for the Odyssey ties directly to his long collaboration with Christopher Nolan: the actor has appeared in eight of the director's films, including all three installments of the Dark Knight trilogy. The Guardian notes that expectations for Nolan's film are high. Forecasts suggest it could match the success of his previous film, which earned nearly a billion dollars at the box office and won seven Oscars. The Caine-voiced audiobook is a standalone ElevenLabs project, but it is clearly aimed at the wave of interest in the Odyssey that the film's premiere will generate.
What it means
Officially licensed AI replicas of celebrity voices are shifting from experimental technology to a legitimate commercial product. Studios and rights holders are willing to sanction the use of an actor's synthesized voice in new projects, provided it is backed by an official license rather than simply cloned without permission.
