Mistral renames Le Chat to Vibe — a unified agent for work and coding

Mistral AI has renamed Le Chat to Vibe and introduced a single agent for two fundamentally different tasks: Work Mode — for complex multi-stage workflows, and Code Mode — for code development from initial request to a ready pull request available for team review.

One Agent, One License

All Le Chat accounts automatically migrated to Vibe — conversation history, settings, and billing plans are fully preserved. The name change is more than a rebranding: Mistral has unified two modes under a single subscription, eliminating the need to choose separate products for document work and code development. Vibe runs on Mistral's flagship models, optimized for reasoning tasks, agentic processes, and code writing. Before executing any complex task, the agent builds a plan and proposes it for approval — only after confirmation does it proceed to work. This approach reduces the risk of agent autonomy and allows you to stop at any stage.

What Work Mode Can Do

In Work mode, Vibe connects to corporate data sources and conducts a task from start to finish: from information gathering to a ready document or report. Key capabilities:

• Search across corporate knowledge — integration with Google Workspace, Outlook, SharePoint, Slack, GitHub, and custom connectors
• Analysis of structured data — connect a database or upload a spreadsheet, get charts and dashboards right in the chat
• Document synthesis — drafts of briefs, reports, RFP responses through a Canvas tool, with export to Notion, SharePoint, or email
• Task scheduling — set a prompt once, and the agent runs on a schedule and sends a notification with the result
• Custom skills — extensions built on open standards for automating repetitive workflows

Each execution step is displayed in real time, and any tool call can be expanded to show input and output data — no black box. For an individual user, this means morning routine of "sort through email, gather figures, write an update" becomes a single prompt. For an organization, corporate processes tied to internal documents and mailboxes are delegated to an agent with administrator-level access rights.

Code Mode and VS Code Extension

Code Mode is a separate surface in the Vibe web app from which you can connect GitHub, manage projects, and launch sessions. The agent works in an isolated sandbox: reads the repository, writes and refactors code, fixes bugs, creates pull requests. The user sees the diff in process and decides whether to approve each sensitive action.

Multiple sessions run in parallel and continue even when the computer is off. In June, Slack integration will arrive — development sessions can be launched directly from the messenger. At the same time, an official Vibe extension for VS Code is being released.

The agent appears in the sidebar next to open files, automatically reads context, supports selecting line ranges, and @ mention to pull files from other directories. The extension works on the same basis as the Vibe CLI: functionality is synchronized between both interfaces.

What This Means

Mistral is entering the market with a unified product competing in two segments simultaneously: Work Mode challenges Microsoft 365 Copilot and enterprise AI assistants, while Code Mode directly competes with Cursor and GitHub Copilot. Unification under a single license lowers the barrier for enterprise deals — one contract covers both work and engineering scenarios.
