Yandex Music faced an uncontrollable flood of AI tracks. Investigation results showed that the platform has essentially lost the ability to distinguish human music from AI-generated content, and this seriously undermines its value to users.
The Scale of the Problem
The Yandex Music database currently contains at least 140 thousand AI artists. Every month they upload over 100 thousand AI tracks, which amounts to approximately 40% of all new uploads to the platform. In top charts the situation is even more acute: every 10th track in the general rating is auto-generated. Examples have already come to attention: a cover of Yesenin's poem "Syp', garmonika" took 16th place in the chart. Or the track "Yarmarka sudeb" by artist Alena — it was even sung live on Russia 1 TV channel, and none of the viewers noticed it was AI. Such examples are becoming increasingly common.
How the Problem Arose
Yandex Music used to be praised. Its recommendation algorithms were smart enough to help listeners discover obscure bands and new artists. People found genuine content through it and built their musical taste on that basis. But with the arrival of Suno, Lyria and Udio everything changed. Music generators became so accessible and simply functional that creating a professionally sounding track now requires neither talent, nor time, nor investment. Anyone can upload hundreds and thousands of tracks under a fictional artist name within hours. The platform developed no protection. Recommendation algorithms continued doing their job — recommending what's popular. And now they massively push low-quality neural slop, pushing living performers out of feeds.
Why This Is Critical
- Feed algorithms are completely broken — they select popular AI tracks instead of quality music from real artists
- Living musicians lose listeners in an exhausting battle with freely generated content
- Charts stop reflecting real preferences and become simply garbage dumps of AI
- The platform loses its core value — it is no longer a helper in music discovery, but a source of spam
What Yandex Is Doing
There is no official comment from the company. The platform lacks filters, labeling, or even restrictions on uploading AI content. It appears that Yandex either doesn't see the problem or isn't interested in addressing it.
"Over 100 thousand AI tracks monthly — that's 40% of all uploads.
And Yandex is doing nothing," — the investigation concludes.
What This Means
The Yandex Music problem is a local version of the global issue affecting all platforms where AI content is unlabeled, unrestricted, and not separated. Without explicit filters, algorithms will continue to learn from neural slop and become worse. Users who came for live music will leave to places where they see honest content and honest recommendations.
