Google has rolled out expanded AI assistant capabilities in the mobile version of Gmail. The 'AI Inbox' and updated 'Help me write' features are now available in iOS and Android apps, allowing users to work with AI directly from their smartphones.

Mobile App Updates

Previously, email generation capabilities through AI were available only in Gmail's web version. This was a logical first step — desktop development, where performance and screen real estate are more challenging. However, statistics show that the overwhelming majority of people check email on their smartphones. Now Google acknowledges this reality and brings AI features to native mobile apps, where users spend most of their time.

'AI Inbox' appears in the side navigation panel of the mobile app directly below the standard 'Inbox', just as in the web version. This creates a unified interface between desktop and mobile. However, in mobile apps, Google has also added this option to the bottom navigation bar for maximum quick access. The bottom navigation in mobile apps is the most frequently used UI element, so this link will be visible almost all the time. This allows users to enable intelligent email filtering with a single tap and see only the most important messages.

'Help me write' has also been rolled out to iOS and Android mobile apps. This feature provides automatic reply suggestions and helps create new emails from scratch. Previously, this capability was limited to the web version, which made working with email on the go quite difficult — if you're in a hurry, you wouldn't get AI suggestions. Now this injustice has been corrected.

Adapting to Your Writing Style

The main update to the 'Help me write' feature is that it now learns your personal correspondence style. Previously, AI generated responses based on universal templates, which created a problem: the suggestion sounded like it came from a robot, not from you. Now the algorithm analyzes your previous emails and extracts characteristics of your style:

  • Level of formality (friendly, business, neutral)
  • Typical sentence and paragraph length
  • Frequently used introductory phrases and closing statements
  • Your way of structuring information and emphasizing points
  • Preferred expressions of politeness and respect

Based on this analysis, AI generates reply suggestions that don't look like templates but sound naturally like you. If you tend to write briefly and to the point, AI won't suggest elaborate formulations with many introductory phrases. If your style is friendly and expansive with personal details, the suggestions will match that manner. This is important not only for convenience but also for professional reputation. People value authenticity in emails and recognize the author by style. An AI assistant that learns your voice helps you remain yourself even while using automation.

"Personalized AI assistance allows you to save time without compromising your individual voice in correspondence," — this is how

Google justifies the new approach.

Expanding AI Access

Google is actively implementing AI features in its products, and Gmail is one of the priority areas. The rollout of the AI assistant to mobile apps signals that the company views the smartphone as the primary device for email work. This is especially relevant for developing markets, where mobile internet penetration exceeds 70-80%, and the share of users checking email only through an app is growing.

Features are available to both Pro subscribers (Google One) and in the free version with some limitations, which expands the reach of the audience able to use AI in daily work.

What This Means

These updates demonstrate that AI assistants are transitioning from the category of experimental gimmicks to everyday work tools. Google's personalized approach — learning the user's style — is a step forward compared to universal text generators. For business, this means internal corporate email can be automated without losing corporate style and company voice. And for regular users — email becomes less exhausting routine and more attention remains on the content of messages.
