Alibaba releases HappyHorse — an open-source AI video generator that surpassed ByteDance’s Seedance

What is HappyHorse

HappyHorse-1.0 is a fully open model for generating video content from text prompts or images. Alibaba made it available for public download, independent deployment, and fine-tuning without licensing restrictions or paid subscriptions. This fundamentally distinguishes HappyHorse from most top competitors. Runway Gen-3, OpenAI's Sora, Google's Veo 3, and Kuaishou's Kling all work exclusively through closed APIs with monthly payment. Developers depend on vendor pricing decisions, quotas, and service availability in their region.

The evaluation was conducted by Artificial Analysis — an independent platform that systematically tests AI models against standardized criteria. In the video generation category, image quality, motion consistency, physical realism, and prompt adherence accuracy are evaluated.
