Bumble launched AI assistant Bee for finding couples based on goals and compatibility

Bumble presented a new AI assistant called Bee — a tool that should radically change the logic of how the dating app works. Until now, dating apps have been built around one mechanic: you scroll through profiles, swipe right or left, get a match. Bee proposes a different approach — the system analyzes users' goals and their compatibility, not just external data and mutual attraction.

According to the developers' concept, this should increase the quality of matches and reduce fatigue from endless scrolling through the feed. Bumble is one of the world's largest dating platforms, known for requiring women to make the first move in heterosexual couples. The app is actively seeking ways to update the model, which has barely changed since the Tinder era.

Implementing an AI layer is part of this strategy. Bee will function as a personal assistant inside the app: ask clarifying questions, learn from user behavior, and over time offer more accurate options. The launch of Bee fits into a broad trend: major technology companies are embedding AI into all consumer products where there is a task of selection and personalization.

Dating is one of the obvious candidates, because the traditional recommendation algorithm works poorly here: people often don't know what they're looking for until they find it. What this means for the market: if Bee proves its effectiveness, competitors — Tinder, Hinge, OkCupid — will face pressure and begin implementing similar solutions. Dating apps could transition from the logic of a "shop" to the logic of an "advisor" — and this will change both the user experience and the business models of platforms.
