Spotify has launched Studio—a new application with an AI agent that creates personalized podcast briefings based on your online activity and listening history.

How It Works

Studio is a separate PC application with its own chat interface. You give tasks to the AI agent, and it executes them. The foundation for content is your Spotify listening history, but the application connects to external sources: email, calendar, and notes. This way, the agent sees what you're thinking about, who you're meeting with, and what you're planning.

Spotify promises that the AI can "act on your behalf"—researching topics on the internet, using a browser, organizing information, and helping complete tasks. Any created content—a podcast, playlist, or briefing—can be saved directly to your Spotify library and listened to later.

The application will be available only to users over 18 years old and will launch "in the coming weeks" as a research preview.

What Content Does Studio Generate

The main option is a daily briefing—a personal podcast briefing. Studio selects relevant information from your data and voices it. But the range of options is broader:

  • Playlists tailored to your mood or daily schedule
  • Podcasts on topics that interest you based on your listening history
  • Organized briefings from emails and notes
  • Research on demand—the agent searches the internet
  • Automated tasks, such as form filling

Essentially, it's a hybrid of a personal assistant and recommendation engine wrapped in podcast format.

Context: Why Spotify Needs This

The music streaming service has long been looking for ways to deepen user engagement. Homepage recommendations work, but Studio goes further—it's an active assistant that proactively suggests content and helps with everyday tasks.

Competitors (Apple Music, YouTube Music, Amazon Music) will need to respond with similar products. For Apple, this could be problematic, as Siri in its current form lags in multi-step task capability.

Studio promises to be a personal radio station that knows you like no one else

What This Means

Spotify is transforming from a music streaming service into an AI platform that manages information and content around the user. If Studio succeeds, it will become a model for other streaming services. And this is good news for users—personal assistants embedded in familiar applications are much more useful than separate chatbots.
