Startups Choose Claude Code Over GitHub Copilot and Cursor — Business Insider Survey

Claude Code from Anthropic is rapidly becoming the primary development tool in technology startups, displacing GitHub Copilot and Cursor. According to a Business Insider survey of more than two dozen company founders and venture investors, developers are increasingly choosing Anthropic's solution for complex engineering tasks and autonomous workflows.

Why Claude Code Wins

Claude Code attracts developers with the ability to work on the complete project lifecycle — from architectural design to final testing. Unlike Copilot, which often provides fragmented code, Claude Code can analyze the entire repository context and suggest solutions that align with existing architecture and code style. Engineers note that Claude Code handles abstract tasks better, when it's necessary not just to complete a function but to understand the logic of the entire system. This is especially noticeable when refactoring complex legacy code and developing critical API integrations — the tool helps identify potential security and performance issues before the code reaches production.

Venture investors in the survey noted that development efficiency directly impacts the speed of bringing a product to market. If Claude Code allows a team of three developers to work at the speed of a team of five, this means cost reduction and MVP acceleration by a factor of two — critical for a startup's budget.
